Gold Tuna Bangi: A Dutch Couple’s Instagram-Led Korean Food Journey
It is no longer a surprise to see international guests stepping through the doors of Goldtuna.
Some find us while exploring the streets of Jamsil or Bangi-dong, while others arrive with a specific purpose, guided by a friend’s recommendation or a video they saw online.
On this particular day, we met a couple whose journey to our table began much further away than we first imagined.
A connection sparked by the mention of the Netherlands
When I asked where they were from, they replied, "The Netherlands."
An immediate sense of warmth washed over me.
To many Koreans, the Netherlands is a familiar friend—the land of tulips and windmills, but also the home of Guus Hiddink, the man who led our national team to a historic miracle in 2002.
Perhaps it was because of that shared sporting history that I felt an instant rapport with them. Their presence felt like a welcome bridge between our two cultures.
Bridging languages through a simple app
They were on a journey across Korea.
Curious about how they found our quiet corner in Bangi-dong, I opened a translation app to deepen our conversation.
As we began to "talk," they pulled out their phones to show us a video from Goldtuna’s Instagram.
This wasn't a chance encounter. They had watched that video back in the Netherlands and decided to make Goldtuna a destination on their Korean adventure.
A digital invitation from across the sea
The translated text on the screen read:
We saw your video on Instagram
and were so moved that we had to come here.
It was humbling to realize that a short video filmed in Seoul could inspire someone thousands of miles away to include us in their travel itinerary.
Out of all the many restaurants in this vast city, we felt deeply grateful that they chose to spend their precious time with us at Goldtuna.
When digital content becomes a real-world connection
This visit was a beautiful reminder of how technology can transcend borders to bring people together.
Seeing a digital story transform into a physical presence in our dining room was a powerful experience for our entire team.
Listening is the first step of hospitality
We believe that hospitality for international guests shouldn't begin with a rehearsed explanation, but rather with a sincere question.
Where did you come from? What expectations brought you here? What story did you hear about us?
The desire to understand a guest is a language that needs no translation.
At Goldtuna, we strive to ensure that every traveler who finds us feels seen and included, never like a stranger in a foreign land.
An evening made bright by our guests
The couple’s energy was infectious, filled with bright smiles and genuine reactions to every dish.
It was a joy to finally meet the people behind the digital engagement and to share a meal with them in person.
It was truly an honor to be a small part of their Korean travel story.
Their presence made our evening just as special as we hope we made theirs.
Wishing for a safe and happy journey
We hope the remainder of their journey through Korea is filled with safety and happiness.
May the people they meet, the flavors they taste, and the moments we shared at Goldtuna remain as cherished memories long after they return home.
