I recently stepped back into the role of a student.
I attended an advanced management course designed for small business owners.
From the podium, sophisticated terminology filled the air.
Terms like "data-driven management," "marketing inflation," and "foodtainment" were discussed with academic precision. To be honest, it made my head spin a little.
The world changes so quickly these days.
I worried whether an old-fashioned person like me could ever keep up.
Yet, as I listened closely, a strange realization took hold.
The words were grand, but they were essentially the same things I have been practicing on the floor every single day.
Take the lecturer’s mention of "data-driven management."
To me, that is the act of remembering a regular guest and asking, "Since you enjoyed the belly cuts last time, shall I prepare a different selection for you today?"
Those rough memories and the quiet care I keep in my head—that is my data.
The fancy term "foodtainment" is the same.
It is our legendary manager bringing a burst of laughter to a guest's table with her spirited service.
It is the moment a tray of snow-white tuna emerges through a mist of dry ice, and guests reach for their cameras with wonder.
That marriage of food and joy is what they call foodtainment.
One formula from the class remained etched in my mind.
"Add 20% uniqueness to 80% essence."
I translated this into my own simple philosophy.
"Provide 80% satisfaction through the finest tuna, and offer an extra 20% of heartfelt laughter as a gift."
Clever management and polished marketing.
Truthfully, I still find those concepts a bit foreign.
Yet, after completing the complex course, I felt a sense of peace.
I decided I would simply continue walking this path with quiet dedication.
Waking at dawn to select the finest tuna, slicing it with devoted care, and watching guests enjoy their meal with a simple smile.
I find the most joy in this honest way of doing business.
Tomorrow, as always, I will have plenty of exceptional tuna ready and waiting for you.
I hope your day was a good one.
